B Sivaraman has obtained B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from University of Madras (India) in 2003 and then Masters of Space Studies from International Space University (France) in 2004 and his Ph.D. degree in Astrochemistry (under the guidance of Prof Nigel John Mason) from The Open University (UK) in 2009. He had three-year stint of postdoc at The Open University (UK) and in TIFR (India) before joining the Inorganic and Physical Chemistry (IPC) Department, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, under the INSPIRE Faculty program. A year later, in 2013, he joined as a Reader in Astrochemistry at Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad, where he started the laboratory astrochemistry group. In 2016, he was awarded the INSA medal for young scientist for contributions to low temperature astrochemistry. He is a Visiting Lecturer at the International Space University (France) and Visiting Scientist at the University of Kent (UK). His research interests include investigating the physico-chemical changes induced – in low temperature (10 K) astrochemical ices (and astrobiology analogues) by electrons, photons, ions and – in high temperature (>10000 K) astrochemistry / astrobiology by dust impacts and shockwaves.
